It is a journey that takes a lifetime for everyone. At some point we all face the same question; Why did I do that? Understanding why we do the things we do can be the hardest thing we ever do. For years I’ve said, we do the things we do because we feel the way we feel. We feel the way we feel because we think the way we think. If we want to change our behavior, we must change the way we feel. In order to change the way we feel we must change the way we think.
The Word of God is the greatest book ever written on human behavior. Man’s attempt to provide meaningful answers to man’s patterns of behavior has ended only in repeating what the bible teaches. The power of thought is seen in God himself toward us in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not evil, to give you an expected end. The power of the thoughts of God toward us changes our destiny. The term expected indicates that we are tied together with God into the plan of His thoughts toward us. Consider Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. Our thought life then must be plugged into a higher source than just this earthly human frame.
The power behind thoughts is life changing according to the bible. The power of thought is why the bible teaches us how to think. If our thought patterns are corrupted, then behavior will be modified to fall in line with how we think. If our thought patterns are in line with the Word of God, then we can experience the expected end of the thought patterns of God himself. Therefore, our mind must be disciplined and trained in the ways of God. Ephesians 4:22-23, That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. So many passages of scripture speak to the mind and the power of our thought life which indicates that we must submit our thoughts to the Spirit of God within us.
As we discover how the Lord teaches us to think and submit our mind to the renewal of God’s Spirit then we can begin a journey of life transformation. It has been obvious to me that the mind is the last thing we offer to the Lord. We give to the Lord everything else before we give Him our mind. The mind seems to act as a hiding place from God and His Word for us. Our thought life is filled with the fantasy of endless possibilities and potential for an alternate life. This is Satan’s way of leading us into strongholds that creates imaginations that are opposite of God’s expected end for our lives. May we take a journey through the Word of God and fill our minds with the thoughts of God toward us and begin to manifest His thoughts instead of our own.
