Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
I found my thoughts centered this morning on what the body of Christ could accomplish if we could harness the power of agreement. This verse placed in context is a challenge for the Church to stand in agreement, with the truth as the basis, and in relationship with each other. This releases a power that moves heaven. In a time when people seldom agree on anything, surely, we could find agreement on many things together to move heaven on behalf of our life here on earth.
Many things jump out to me concerning this verse that our simplistic, but powerful. The first thing is that we are not designed to walk alone. There is great purpose in the qualification of two joining together. I believe that God answers the prayers of a child of God. I also believe that there are times when we are faced with things that require agreement that moves the heart of God. The day of Pentecost was a power released on the earth that was preceded by people gathered in agreement which in turn moved heaven. We could say that agreement equals the release of power. The prayer of the saints in Acts 4:24-31 was a prayer of agreement for the preaching of the Word of God to go out in boldness. The answer came with the power of God being released to them. It is then that the glory of God is experienced.
To agree means to give your consent. The element of faith in our agreement moves God. The specific nature of our agreement becomes the target. Could we find a specific thing that we could not just agree on, but agree on with great passion? Maybe the question should be asked as was asked by David, “Is there not a cause.” Just to rally the people to intercede with agreement for a specific cause would release the power of God to move.
Look at the geographical locations mentioned in this verse. If we agree on earth, the Father in heaven will do what we ask, touching anything. Heaven invades earth because of the agreement of just two.
It’s time to do more than talk to each other. It’s time to pray in agreement together over specific things that we need an invasion of heaven to move over the earth. Let’s get specific. Find that partner of prayer. That agreeing warrior that you can count on to believe with you. Pray without ceasing. Pray believing. Pray with zeal and passion. Then watch God move. I’m looking for the invasion of heaven through the prayers of God’s people.
