Go ahead and Die

Col 2:20-23 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

No more fitting passage of scripture could be considered for our day today than this.  Our Lord Jesus came into this world, but His Kingdom was not of this world.  You and I are in this world, but we are not to live as though we are of this world.  Yet this very mindset has crept into church life to the point that we operate from the principles that govern this present world more than we do the Kingdom of God.  Our discernment seems to be mingled with worldly principles.  Success as defined by this world system is not the mark of godliness or spirituality.  In times past I have heard preachers say that the world is getting churchy and the church is getting worldly.  Never has this statement been so true.

Church life is now defined by the business models of success rather than a deep passion for the Word of God.  We operate based on evidence more than living by faith.  We consider intelligence of a worldly nature more than leaning on divine revelation of the Holy Spirit.  Churches have become machines that must be fed.  Churches have become playhouses of entertainment.  Our new definition of spirituality has become trapped in the various models of mega-facilities that entertain the children, make the adults feel better about themselves, and deny the supernatural power of an intervening God.  We are replacing a life of faith for a life of fleshly evidence of knowledge.

If we have joined ourselves to Christ, then why do we live as though we are still governed by this present world system?   If the just shall live by faith, then why do we consider the present realities of this world when we have the power of the living God available to us?  If the provision of the God of Heaven lives within us, then why do we live as though we are so poor?  If the gospel of Christ is given to every man, why do we make things so complicated?  If the Word of God is understood only by the power of the Holy Spirit that guides men into all truth, why do we present it with complex equations to make it hidden?

The elements of this world should never be a part of the government of the Church.  The wisdom of men is not needed in the operation of the believer’s life in order to find the direction needed for our spirit man.  What we need is to go ahead and die with Christ that we may live.  Go ahead and die to the things of this world so that we can embrace the Kingdom that is not of this world.  Go ahead and die to our own learned knowledge of the way to success.  Go ahead and die to the models set before us and let God’s Spirit have dominion over our being.  Go ahead and die to the desire to build your own kingdom in order to live in God’s Kingdom.  Go ahead and die to the desire to be exalted and let’s begin to exalt the living Christ again.

God forgive us of trying to rob you of your rightful place.  We have no wisdom to offer.  We have no good thing to give.  We cannot be fixed. We must be replaced by your Spirit to live and breathe in us that we may experience your life in us.  Help us to reckon ourselves as dead that we may live.
