Tribulation

One sees great things from the valley; only small things from the peak--G.K.Chesterton

Acts 14:22  Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

The def. of tribulation (G2346) means pressure, afflicted, anguish, persecution, and trouble. I do not remember hearing but maybe one sermon on tribulation. Looking at these definitions, our nature is not one to invite tribulation into our life, or run toward it. However, I think we sometimes forget that we as disciples, (disciplined ones) are going through a pretty strenuous program of being pressed, moulded, and shaped through the refining fire. We all have experienced the Potter's wheel in many ways. It would be interesting to meditate on the times the Holy Spirit  moulded on His wheel, and how His Presence was formed in us during this intense time of being refashioned, reshaped, and moulded. I am grateful when He shows me why He reshaped, or even smashed my pot and started over. As I realize the things in my nature that were not like His, I am grateful that a loving Father knows just how to fashion me into His image. I am still on the Potter's wheel, but more light shines through a "cracked pot" than a self made pot.

Philippians 1:6  He who began a good work in you will perfect until the day of Jesus Christ.

God has always intended for us to persevere through trials. This goes against the human nature, and we find ourselves swimming up stream. It takes greater effort than avoiding, or running from tribulation. If I remember right, Jesus suffered many tribulations, and He is the pattern Son. God is doing something very profound in tribulation. Surrender, and let Him mold you through tribulation.

  • Jill,

This is so good. It makes all the difference in the world to get a glimpse of tribulations divine secrets; which of course is to make us after the image of His beloved Son! Thanks for the fresh perspective and encouragement.
