Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
In this proverb we are told to guard our heart. The responsibility is placed on us to do the job. It says, ABOVE all else, because this is where the springs of LIFE flow. A spring or a fountain continually has water bursting forth. If what we hear, think, speak, or gaze on, are things that are not of the Lord, this will go into our hearts, and polluted waters will spring forth. But if we guard against these things, and keep our minds stayed on the Word of God, then life springs forth to everyone around us, and it brings health and healing to us as well.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
This peace comes from (verse 6) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known unto God.
In everything by prayer. Anxiety and prayer are two great opposing forces. The antidote to worry is thanksgiving.
Peace comes when we commit all our prayers to God, and cease to worry. The full dimensions of God’s love and care are beyond our human understanding. Like a parent and a child. He knows how to take care of everything given fully to Him in prayer. As the Heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways and understanding above ours.
