God is not the least bit interested in our principled application of His truth to our lives. What an insane and preposterous idea, you say? Then what is he interested in? How about our embracing His truth-Jesus!
There are worlds of difference between a principled application of truth and embracing Jesus-who is the way, the life, and the truth! In the High Priestly prayer of Jesus found in John 17; Jesus prays, “Sanctify them in the truth, Thy Word is truth.” (vs 17) What sets us apart is not our correct application of the scriptures (wherein truth is introduced and contained); but rather our embodiment of THE TRUTH-THE PERSON of JESUS!
"You shall know (embrace intimately) the truth and the truth will set you free." Set you free of what? For starters, the futility of 'trying' to apply his truth to your life. Instead of religious performance we are honored to host his life! "If you abide in me, I will abide in you." There isn't anything more real or more important. As he (Jesus) is in this world, so are we! Much more vital than our self-righteous correct application of Biblical truths is our genuine reflection of Jesus.
“And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth.” John 1:14 AMPC
