The Word of God

The Word of God

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”  He spoke his “Let there be” and matter was created through his spoken word.  God existed prior to the beginning of the created universe and according to Job the Word of God, the breath of the Almighty is the giver of life.

The Word of God became human and dwelt among us but the very world he created did not recognize him.  He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness and we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s One and only Son.  The law was given through Moses but this unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ.  Jesus is the one who reveals God to us, the one whom John the Baptist testified about who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through him.

Jesus is the Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice who suffered, died, was buried and rose again on the third day.  He ascended unto the Father who promised to send us another advocate, the Holy Spirit to live in us and with us.  He said that we would know that he is in the Father, we are in him and he is in us.  How profound, we are one with God himself as the bride of Christ?  “The Spirit and the bride say, Come”, no wonder there is a cry in our hearts to abide in his word and let it abide in us. “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. “Colossians 3:16 (NLT)

John 15:7-8 “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want and it will be granted.  When you produce much fruit you are my disciples.  This brings great joy to the Father.”  Even though Jesus is in heaven, he is here in the midst of us because his Holy Spirit dwells inside of us.  It is beyond our comprehension to grasp the concept of our eternal God.  “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.”  John 6:63 (NLT)

Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”  When we speak the word of God through reading, preaching, singing, living, praying or conversation; God’s life is proceeding from us.  It is not just words, but power, God’s infinite power that created all things.  The very breath of life is performing his will from inside of us through the power of his Holy Spirit.  The Word of God is Jesus himself, the word that was with God in the beginning and is with us and in us now.  This word that is sharper than a two-edged sword and cutting between soul and spirit is coming forth from us.  This word shows us what is of him and what is of the flesh, what is good and what is evil.  The Word of God brings life to the environment around it because his words are life and peace.  When we speak his word, the very life of Jesus Christ is coming forth from our mouths influencing the things around us.  So, he watches over his word to perform it because honors his word.  Everything moves aside for the Word of God and he said signs shall follow them that believe in the name of Jesus.  The Holy Spirit inhabits us enabling us to do the things that Jesus did. His word moves molecules, destroys sickness, brings life to that which is dead and moves on the hearts of men.  His word exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.  We do not know our own hearts but God’s Word exposes them to us.  Life and death is in the power of the tongue.
