The Joy Set Before Him

Sunday during worship service, while we sang a song about trials and pain a particular scripture kept coming up inside of me.

Hebrews 12:2 (KJV) Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

It was so intense that I actually found myself shouting out “who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross.” This word was so vivid and passionate in my spirit that I actually felt the overwhelming love of God engulfing me.

I saw Jesus hanging on the cross before an angry crowd jeering and mocking him yet he looked beyond the crowd to the joy set before him. What was he kooking at in this crowd that brought him such great joy?  It was the very people mocking and jeering at him that he saw as His precious bride and it filled him with such a great love he was willing to suffer crucifixion to make it happen. What kind of love is this and how is it possible to live in this love?

Romans 5:5 (KJV) “The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

We are the ones that sinned; Jesus died for us and then gave us with the gift of his precious Holy Spirit. Is there anything more awesome anything greater than this? I cannot think of one solitary thing that I would rather have in life than a love relationship with the very God of all creation.

I stopped to ponder the scripture that to whom much is given, much is expected.  Luke 12:48 (NLT) "When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required."  How much more could God give than the life of His Son Jesus and the impartation of His precious Holy Spirit through whom we have power to become the children of God?

How do we respond to such a great love as this? We can ask the precious Spirit of the Living God, the very flame of God to fill us with His love on a daily  basis. We can ask him to let us hear what he hears, feel what he feels, and to let us hear his heartbeat.  The Spirit and the bride say “come.”
