The gift of discernment is not an easy gift to live with, especially if you've never had the training or understanding of what this gift really is. Many in the church think this gift is given to people to "see whats wrong" with others. When the opposite is true. Those in the psychic world and of the lot of the "new agers" and those who are practicing in the occult use this gift for all sorts of dark personal reasons. Thing is, this gift was never meant to work outside God's love and in a sanctified manner. This gift actually allows a person to "see" into the spirit realm...but thats only the beginning of this gift!
If you've ever found yourself being REALLY sensitive feeling tired or extremely angry when you come into contact with certain people...this could be this gift at work. If you often "pick up" on the feelings of others you love w/o them close to you, this could be this gift at work. If you get to certain parts of your town and feel heavy or sad then the sadness passes quick, it could be this gift at work. If you driving down the road and "suddenly" love, joy, peace and clarity SURGE through you, it could be this gift at work. If your around a friend or family member and love bubbles from your heart for them it could be this gift at work. If your a Christian or not and this gift has been given you by the Lord then you had better plan on learning how it works. This gift when utilized correctly can be the difference between great clarity and great confusion when learning how God is speaking to you.
Spiritual Radar
Discernment works much like radar. Radar is a command center that uses signals in order to understand what force is operating, but also about the position, location and type of a certain force that it is. It tells you what’s in the air, in the sea or on land. Spiritual discernment is similar to“radar” except that it is of the “spiritual senses” and is not mechanical.
The gift of discernment of spirit’s is not complex. This gift automatically is at work in our hearts but usually is hampered by misunderstanding or misconception or sin. Simply put discernment is the gift that helps us understand the true nature and origin of the spiritual forces in our life. It is a gift that WORKS GREATEST WHEN LINKED WITH LOVE. As you can imagine knowing the true state of the spiritual climate will “expose” the lies. Understanding God’s truth in everyday life will combat the falsehood of the enemy.

Thank you for the post. I agree with Deborah in that it sends me into intercession mode. I have been in church and around others in other places when God would point someone out to me that is hurting. Then I will actually feel what they are feeling. God will then tell me what to do or pray.
I find many times that when I sense these things it is a call for intercession for the particular individual and/or God may give a word of encouragment or exhortation to share with them. It is really exciting when God gives us the honor of seeing the inscape of an individual and walk in obedience to his plans.
You are so right that it must be linked with love and it is totally his grace that allows us to work with him in this way. It is a great privelege that he allows us mere humans to participate with him like this.
