Nurtured Toward Home

Nurtured toward Home

Ever felt like a wandering exile? Maybe you haven’t been exiled geographically; but, emotionally, relationally or spiritually. Even some of our own attempts at fitting in have walled us out. We tend to build inner fortresses and/or compensating behaviors in a vain attempt to feel at home-to fit in.

Some of the places I have ministered over the years were in refugee and exile encampments. But I met dear folks who found a home wherever they were geographically. They were no one’s political or ideological prisoner/outcast. How did they pull that off? The same way we who may be free and have a home, but still struggle to be at home, must. Papa desires to resolve our internal ‘wandering exile’ issues.

“You’re no longer wandering exiles. The Kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. (No matter what anyone one else does or infers-you fit.) You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all—irrespective of how we got here—in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he is using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day—a holy temple built by God, a temple in which God is quite at home.” Ephesians 2:19-22, The Message, parenthesis mine.

There is nothing like fitting in! But, it does take some work on Papa’s part to chisel and smooth off the rough edges. The only thing that can keep you on the outside looking in is not embracing the Kingdom of faith as your home country. He is always calling you home to himself, with Christ as the cornerstone of anywhere you are. He is daily embracing our ‘wandering exile’ issues. He is nurturing you toward home. Come home to him within today!

In the grip of Papa’s homecoming grace! Ron Ross

  • I like the word "exile" that you used,, and truly believe this is a now word for this generation,, I see this is as a mass epademic as a Senior Chaplain, and it's not only just the BIG ones, but can be the smaller issues, that are  more subtle, because they are more hidden and obsolete. Keep writing, it is encouraing!
