Light and Darkness

Genesis 1:3-4 (KJV)

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness."

God separated the light from the darkness in the very beginning.  We are seeing this separation occur increasingly in the world today.

In John 1:4-5 (NLT) “The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone.  The light shines in the darkness and the darkness can never extinguish it.”

(John 1:14) That true light was Jesus Christ, the Word of God.

Look at the current world events, there is a distinct division between light and darkness, the lines are clearly drawn.  There is absolutely no middle ground and we must choose today whom we will serve.

John 3:35-36 (NLT)

Jesus said, “My light will shine for just a little longer.  Walk in the light while you can so darkness cannot overtake you.  Those who walk in darkness cannot see where they are going.  Put your trust in the light while there is still time, then you will become children of light.”

I have an Iranian friend who told me in the Middle East a caravan of camels is trained to follow the camel in front of it.  The lead camel knows where he is taking the caravan.  Camels are all covered with sheets to protect them from the harsh desert environment.  These sheets have openings for the eyes so they can follow the camel in front of them.  If the lead camel travels in the wrong direction and walks over a cliff, the entire caravan will follow.

We see the world today walking in the wrong direction, heading into darkness.  Concurrently, we see the children of God taking a stand to walk in the light

1 John 1:5-7 (KJV)

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

Jesus is the only name under heaven or earth by which we can be saved.  Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price for our salvation when he gave his life.

1 John 2:7-10 (KJV)

“Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.  Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.”

If we are following any other route, we are like the caravan of camels heading in the wrong direction and over the cliff.  It is very clear, “whoever has the Son has life, and whoever does not have God’s son does not have life.”  Living our lives for Jesus is the clear and simple dividing line between light and darkness.  God is love and in him is no darkness at all.

Is your love for Jesus growing daily?  Do you love your brothers and sisters in the Lord with growing intensity?  Is your heart crying out with an increasing passion for the lost and dying?

The Christian life is all about relationship and not performance.  Please allow his love to compel you forward into the light.  There is no middle ground, no half-lit Christian life.

Isaiah 60:1-2 (KJV)

“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.”

Let the light of Christ shine in the darkness.  The darkness is only going to get darker and your light will shine even brighter.  I encourage you to pursue daily a love relationship with Jesus and you will be walking in the light.
