Church in the real world

Today my 1st job was at the home of a local Baptist pastor as I worked we talked about the condition of the church today and in particular its decline as many of you are aware most churches are in an accelerating decline as membership ages and dies the next generation is bailing out some how not picking up on their duty to God[ as some as some would say] also many churches are unable to find pastors as on average 1 pastor a day is leaving the ministry. I know How they feel. The church is hemorrhaging youth and leaders. as I was leaving this home we looked at each other and I believe sincerely agreed something has to change.

My last job today brought me in contact with an acquaintance in his mid thirties who I knew from past conversations was  somewhere between militant agnostic and passive atheist  I engaged him in a lively but friendly discussion I really wanted to see where he was coming from what his perceptions were he was raised in a Christian home and had been baptized twice it was his final thought that I believe to be most important and perhaps a prophetic word to the church. He said religion is just words and books if I could see and experience it I would believe.

Could it be the seeds of Revival grow best in a dark place?

  • yes...............I am working on being brief so I thought about just letting my 'yes & amen' be 'yes & amen' but, wellllllll :)  The shortest/best response I have is that when the distance from God experienced by most of humanity and, more important even, the idea of simply relating with the Creator God of the Universe in Spirit & Truth motivate the Church more than our own issues then the love & supernatural phenomena will be most convincing.  The Bible tells me so.  God's Kingdom come, His will be done-on earth as it is in heaven.
