There are many ways to measure the success of a man's life. Fame. Wealth. Influence. Generational impact. But success is most truly a life well lived. Especially if your measuring stick is The Bible. A life well lived is at the very least one of an Overcomer. And an Overcomer wrestles and battles with his own flesh, sense of self, human frailties and lesser or base habits.
"For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit." As such they cast their hope upon The Holy Spirit. "For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace." Life and Peace--a life well lived! Too be a man of life is to live your life for the life of others. Too be a man of peace is to help others find peace for their struggles and inner storms. Authentic Christianity is not a life of just working, but of becoming!
Brother Mickey, as most referred to him was about imparting The Holy Spirit, life and peace to all he came in contact with. But in the 35 years I walked with him he first and foremost gave away the love of Jesus! And his love came from a deep well of simple devotion to Jesus. Every time we talked, I could expect this question, 'what is Jesus saying to you?' His was a journey of 'becoming' a simple and true lover of Jesus! His 'becoming' called me further toward my on 'becoming' a simple devoted lover of Jesus. Thank you Brother Mickey for calling me upward by your never wavering example. The view standing on your shoulders was quite clear! Thank you Laura Maye, Clint, David, Dean and Lauralee for the huge part you all played in his life!
