It's Time To Break The Huddle

At the beginning of the year I started thinking about how the first church did church, and how differently I and most others who’ve gone before me have done church. So, in January I asked the Holy Spirit to take away the grid I unconsciously use when reading the Bible and I began…

Moving on after divorce

What does it mean to see Jesus in the face of those who cause us pain and distress?

How do we hold them in such a way that truly lets our grace be known even when they refuse to let us love them?

How do I love myself and truly see Christ in me in spite of the pain and distress I  bring on myself and others.

How do I hold myself in such a way that truly lets grace be known even when I refuse to love myself?

These questions came up for me today when I was packing…

Perception: Two Realities

Perception: Two Realities

By: Alan Smith

  • John 18:36: Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place." (NIV)

Two realities; which one have you chosen to live in: this World or the Kingdom of God?  Both of them are real, but one is greater than the other.  To live in one means to be competitive and…

Nurtured by Praise

"Hallelujah! Sing to God a brand-new song, praise him in the company of all who love him. Let all Israel celebrate their Sovereign Creator, Zion's children exult in their King. Let them praise his name in dance: strike up the band and make great music! And why? Because God delights in his people, festoons plain folk with salvation garlands! Let true lovers break out in praise, sing out from wherever they're sitting, Shout the high…

Coming Out from behind the Veil

Alan, as always feel free to edit and comment.

Mark 15:38 “And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”

Recently I was finishing the book of Mark and I could see Jesus encouraging the disciples not to panic concerning his death.  He reminded them that He would be raised from the dead.

The Mary’s went to find Jesus’ dead body at the gravesite.  The grave would not hold back God because…

Nurtured by Evidence

Nurtured by His Coming

Do you remember how exciting it was as a child on Christmas

Eve? You could hardly go to sleep; much less wait until morning. For me, the

anticipation built for weeks. It was the future hope and certainty that Santa

would come that seemed to propel me…

The Tree of Life

The Tree of Life

By: Alan Smith

Gen 2:9

In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (NIV)

Gen 2:16-17

"You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." (NIV)

I once heard a preacher say, “How good is good if God did not want us to know it?” We usually see in the verse above the word “evil” but… Continue

Nurtured by our Daily Return to Mercy

Disparaging…pained, withering, reproachful, weary. Do any of these words provide insight into the present state of your heart, core identity, emotional condition or inner man? So many are fighting a fierce battle; hoping against hope, to somehow escape the depths of despair. They are encompassed on every side by a continuous onslaught…
